George & Sophia (Neiman) Bent had two children:

  1. 1. Frederick M. Bent (10 July 1846 in Mecklenburg, Vorpommern, Germany- 14 Sep 1916 in Marcellus, Cass, MI, USA) & Ellen Marie Wood Bent (b. 23 Feb 1851 in Florence, St. Joseph, MI, USA - d. 9 May 1917 in Marcellus, Cass, MI, USA). Ellen Marie Wood Bent was the daughter of James W. Wood & Roxanna Puffer. Frederick M. & Ellen Marie (Wood) Bent had 7 children:

    1. Infant Bent (17 June 1873 - 20 June 1873)
    2. George Leroy Bent (b. 1875 in MI - d. 1967) married Elizabeth Clark. They had 4 children.
    3. Roxanna Arvilla Bent (12 July 1876 in Porter, Van Buren, MI - 07 July 1963 in Dowagiac, Cass, MI) married Horace Chester Adams (10 Sept 1868 in Porter, Van Buren, MI - 11 June 1953 in Dowagiac, Cass, MI). They had 3 children: Uriah Mason Adams (19 March 1907 - 04 April 1989), Leslie Bent Adams (17 Dec 1909 - 25 June 1983), Dorothy Marie Adams (21 Oct 1913 - 08 June 1993).
    4. Sophia Ellen Bent (21 Oct 1879 - 23 April 1963) married John Jacob Reiling. They had 7 children.
    5. James Arthur Bent (05 April 1883 - 20 Aug 1950) married Bessie M. Mohney (Jan 1884 - Nov 1967). They had 3 children: Cleon Stanley Bent (28 Sep 1905 - 30 Nov 1997), Philip Dean Bent (29 Oct 1906 - 28 Feb 1987), Claire Marie Bent (b. Sep 1912).

Bent Obituaries

Irene Lucia Knott BENT Oct. 27, 1909 - March 2, 2010 Resident of Alameda died March 2, 2010 in Alameda at age 100. Loving Mother to Carol Brown (Don) and Cleola Tyler (Larry). Grandmother to Terry Brown (Kim), Phyllis Holmlund (Keith), Brian Tyler (Kristen), Steven Tyler (Amanda), and Mark Tyler, and nine great-grandchildren. Irene was an Alameda resident for 69 yrs. Born in Iowa, she taught school in a one room school house in NE from 1927-1936. She retired from Alameda School District in 1975 with 27 years service. A memorial service will be held at Bay Farm Community Church in Alameda, March 22, at 2 PM. Memorial donations may be made to: Mt. Hermon Book of Remembrances Scholarships, PO Box 413, Mt. Hermon, CA 95011 or your favorite charity.(NOTE: She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleon Stanley Bent who died 30 Nov 1997 in Alameda, CA. They were married on 05 March 1938 and had two daughters.

Edith Mary (BENT) SCHROTH, age 101, 29270 Lake Street, Marcellus was born June 7, 1898 and passed away April 11, 2000. She was the oldest daughter of Lillie ICKES and William Oscar STUCK.

On February 17, 1918, Edith became the bride of Forrest Cleon BENT. To this union two sons were born, Harold Laverne in 1919 and Freeland Wade in 1924. Forrest passed away on October 8, 1968 and Harold on April 8, 1975.

Edith remarried an old school mate from Pleasant Valley School, Avery SCHROTH. They were reunited after 53 years and married on November 1, 1973. Avery passed away December 17, 1975.

Edith leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Freeland and Dorotha BENT, Marcellus; grandchildren, Valeri BENT of Chicago; Wade and Mary BENT of Cincinnati, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Hannah W. BENT and Jacob W. BENT, also of Cincinnati.

Three sisters preceded Edith in death, Hazel VOS, Holland, Mildred DAVIS, Vicksburg, and Marjorie RENNE of Spring Hill, Florida, and one brother L.Z. STUCK of Marcellus.

Surviving are two half sisters, Geraldine RAY of Florida and Ruth NERES of Arizona and two half brothers, Paul STUCK of Pleasant Valley and George STUCK of South Haven.

Edith was a member of the Plesant Valley Methodist Church, a member of the Marcellus Bridge Club and a life member of the Order of Eastern Star Ideal Chapter 167.

Services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2000 at the Mater Funeral Home, 52780 M-40 N, Marcellus, with Pastor Peggy Boltz of the Marcellus United Methodist Church officiating.

Visitation will be prior to the services.
