Barbara J. Mumford
Barbara J. Mumford, age 84, of Marcellus, passed away Wednesday evening, February 18, 2009 at Tendercare Portage following a month and a half illness.
She was born November 23, 1924 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Ray B. and Fern G. (Swartz) Smith. On August 30, 1944 in Paw Paw, she married Fred K. Mumford who survives.
She had been a resident of Marcellus since 1934 and graduated from Marcellus High School in 1943. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
Surviving besides her husband, Fred, are two sons, David R. Mumford of Edmore, and Gary L. (Judy) Mumford of Constantine; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother, Howard E. Smith was killed in action in Korea on March 7, 1951.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, February 21, 2009 in the Mater Funeral Home, with Pastor John D. Messner of the Marcellus and Wakelee United Methodist Churches officiating. Burial followed in Marcellus Cemetery.
The family received friends 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2009 in the funeral home.
