LA MOTTE, Iowa - Wayne C. Nemmers, 68, of 211 N. Main St., La Motte, died Saturday morning, Feb. 17, 2001, at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with the Rev. Clayton Landherr and the Rev. Louis Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Nemmers worked for the former Dubuque Packing Co. and later for the former FDL Foods. He retired in 1994.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1933, in La Motte, son of George Nemmers and Mary (Ernest) Nemmers Herrig. He married Kay Simpson on May 1, 1956, at St. Raphael's Chapel. Together they also owned and operated Thompson's Food Market until 1980.

He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Bellevue American Legion Post, Holy Rosary Parish and rosary society in La Motte, and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Nemmers, of La Motte; a son, Ric and Denise (Berthel) Nemmers, of La Motte; a brother, Stanley (Mary Lee Sturm) Nemmers, of La Motte; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Nemmers, of La Motte; and his step-father, Albert Herrig, of La Motte.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Gail, on Aug. 3, 1961, and Karen, on July 12, 1961; his parents; and a brother, Kenneth Nemmers.
