1979 Adams-McKain Reunion
Forty members and one guest attended the 60th Adams-McKain Reunion 8-5-1979 at Prairie View Park, Portage, Michigan. After getting a shelter because of a storm, and Irving Gale saying the blessing, the group enjoyed a bountiful potluck dinner. Hyldred Adams Gale served a marble cake decorated with white frosting, pink roses and green leaves that stated "60th Adams-McKain Reunion." Games and visiting were enjoyed by everyone.
Barbara Gale presented a brief history, explaining that the marriage of Thomas McKain and Jane Morrow in County Down, Ireland, produced Allan, James, David, Jane, Mary, Joseph, Esther, and Will. The reunion's name is the result of the marriage of Jane Woods McKain to Uri Mason Adams 4-1865. Uriah and Jane had Effa Mae, Chester, Archie, Mary, Mason and Ross. All Adams present today are descendants of George and Effa Mae Adams, Chester and Roxanna Adams, or Archie and Lily Adams. October 20, 1972 letter by Lotta Copley details McKain history. The first meeting in 1919 honored Ross Adams who has no living descendants and Harry, son of George and Effa Mae Adams. Those attending 7-16-19 and today are Uriah M. Adams, Carl V. Adams, Clare Adams Price, Dorothy Adams Morse, and Hyldred Adams Gale. Betty Jane and Alford, children of the late Harry and Marian Adams, are here from Bakersfield, California, and Robert, the son of the late William and Helen Adams Kunce, is here from Houston, Texas. Besides acknowledging them and their spouses as coming the farthest, C. Irving Gale and Adam Stoops are the oldest and youngest.
Since the 50th reunion, the family has met at St. Mary Margaret's Church, Marcellus, Upjohn Park and Prairie View Park. Uriah and Clarice, Jim and Kyle, and Jerry Jr. have been presidents and Hyldred Gale secretary-treasurer. Jerry, Jr. called the business meeting to order. Dennis Munson was elected president, and Hyldred and Barbara Gale secretary-treasurer. Clarice told about the Marcellus Centennial on Labor Day weekend. It was decided each family was to donate $2.00-5.00. The next reunion will be 8-3-80 at Prairie View Park; Jerry Jr. to secure a shelter.
